<description>"A faith of exclusivity meaning that this Jesus is the single solitary way, that all others lead away from God..."

And that, in a nutshell, is what's wrong with religion.

Christianity is a mere 2000 years old. The Jews were told they were the chosen people for centuries before that, and continue to believe this. The Hindus believe they will continue to reincarnate until they get it right. Buddhists don't have any gods and believe in achieving peace through meditation and moderation. Heck, the Christian, Muslim, and Jewish gods are all the same One. So if Christianity supercedes Judaism as the one true religion, then why don't the teachings of Muhammad supercede those since Islam came centuries after Christianity? Maybe God figured out a few more things by then and changed his mind on who gets past the velvet rope again?

Or what stops one from narrowing that focus? Only Roman Catholics? Lutherans? Prebyterians? Anglicans? Eastern Orthodox? Why all Christians, when even that broad stroke is fractured into hundres of interpretations?

So what makes Christianity or any religion the right one? Any religion is in a minority compared to then non-followers of that faith, so an exclusionary view means "We're better than everyone else. Us few have it right, and the rest of you will at best be sitting in Purgatory for eternity because you were born in the wrong country, or had a leader of your faith destroy your belief at a young age, or some tragedy turned you away."

The hypocrisy of an inclusive faith that excludes non-believers is what turned me off organized religions years ago. I believe in God, but also believe that there's not a single religion out there that isn't corrupted by the flaws of mankind. I feel absolutely zero need for church, the clergy, or the organized aspects. I imagine if Christ returned tomorrow, he'd weep at the state of his church. His most important teaching was to love thy neighbour, be it enemy, stranger, or family, yet the idea of exclusivity of faith denies people of the ultimate love, which Jesus would have given freely. I cannot honestly believe that any benevolent, loving creator would deny any person who lived by its tenets, though not by a specific denomination of faith.</description>
